Hi all, my friend has a tank in work, which he has populated with a few Platies, which have (unavoidably) begun to breed. He needs something to eat the fry.

Someone reccommended Rosy Barbs, but i cant see them working myself as fry eaters....

Would a small catfish, golden barb or something similar?

Thanks all.

before i had mollies and when the shoot the fry out they usually eat some of 'em and in my experiance any cichlid will eat those fry.

Why not sell them or give them to a petstore?
Its alot easier and you won't need to buy another fish, and may even make a few bob.

Thats what I do, sold 40 the day, now I am tring to get rid of them all out my community tank. But they have funded my species tank so happy about that!

Unfortunately he only has access to the tank during his office hours (8.30-3.30), and, at least around our area of South Wales, there is no demand for comon baby fish...

But thanks though.

He was recommended to buy rosy barbs, and has done so.

I was thinking a banjo cat...

I agree with the others that this should be a last resort, but if it is absolutely necessary, a Pictus Catfish will hoover them all up no problem at all.

Cheers

Pearl gouramis. I never see any fry in my tank, except if I save a few by having one give birth in a breeder.

Definately selling them or giving them to a shop/friend sounds like a much better option to go for rather than buying a new fish.

I had a female betta in my community tank and rarely ever saw babies. I'm sure the mollies and adult platties ate their share of them also.

where abouts in south wales are you? I'm happy for you to chuck them in my tanks for food/slim chance of survival

LOL, actually whoever advised him to use rosy barbs was quite correct! no small fry present...

I learn something new everyday.
