Hello, I am new to tropical fish but have kept pond fish for several years. I recently moved house and inherited - 1 common plec (9 inches long) 1 pair of very old pearl gouramis (now deceased) 1 red eye tetra and 2 neon tetras. These were all in a very small 1/2 hexagonal tank that was approx 2ft x 1ft x 1ft. I did a lot of research and bought a Aquaone Trueview 1230xl, which is 48â€￾x20â€￾x21â€￾ and hold 67 gallons (300 litres). The tank has been up and running for 12 weeks.
When I started the tank I used some of the old filter media from the small tank and a tank start from the TFS. The tank was left to run for 10 days before I put the fish from the old tank in (minus the female gourami that had died.). After 3 more weeks I introduced 4 red scissortails, two weeks later 4 more red eye tetras to keep the original one company and then 8 more neons after a further 2 weeks. The male gourami had now passed away (old age I think as he had no signs of disease).
I would now like to introduce some new fish that will add colour but which are fairly easy to keep. The tank has a combination of real and false plants in it; it is kept at 26 degrees with the lights on for 10 hours a day.
I would prefer fish that are not live bearers as I am do not really want to breed fish.
Would be grateful for any suggestion as I want to make sure I get it right and I don't want to kill anything. Also I do not want to stock the tank to full capacity as I like the fish to have room to move.
Thank you

I like dwarf gourami's or guppies, they are both very colourful and also easier to keep.

Is the common plec in the 300l tank now? A 2ft tank seems very small to keep a 9" fish in

The common plec went into the 300ltr tank with the other fish. It seems much happier now that it can actually swim around instead of crashing into everything. The plec was the reason we changed tanks as we didn't want to get rid of him and felt it was cruel to keep him in such a small tank.

The old tank is now empty as we had to use the old filter to kick start the new tanks filtration system. We may keep it as a quarantine tank.

One of our LFS said that red eye tetras shouldn't be kept with gouramies as they are fin nippers, is this right?
