I have decided on turning my 6 gallon into a DP tank with ottos, as well as being heavily planted. I am new to planted tanks, and I was wondering if I needed any extra lighting? Do I need anything special? I was also wondering where I could get these plants.

Willow moss, Anubius Nana, Limnophila sessiliflora, Mayaka, Hinjimo

Is Willow moss the same as java? Also, I would need java moss and java fern. Jac, I kno you have the moss, so I will PM you when I am ready to convert my 6 gallon.

I always find the plants at my lfs, but I'm not situated where you are - so I wouldn't know. Sometimes, you might want to get som of the plant food. I have been told that the tablets work best! HTH!

hey gp,
i use all live plants in my tanks and if u buys sum cheap ones at ur lfs, they do great. a flouresent liteing hood keeps them helthy along with fertilizers and stuff to help them grow.

Willow moss and java moss are not the same. Supposedly, willow moss is the same as christmas moss, which has gained a lot of popularity among aquascapers (who can find it) for its attractiveness. Here is a bit of information on Christmas moss. Good luck getting it; I've found it online here. Never ordered from them though.

I don't know what Mayako or Hinjimo are.

If all you were interested in were java moss, java fern, and anubias you could get away with no special lighting. I would be surprised if an LFS near you didn't stock Limnophila every now and then. Limnophila would probably require something like a 20-40 watt bulb to do well (smaller tanks require relatively higher wattage per gallon). I use a regular desk lamp on my 5.5g. You could also check online. This website has an excellent reputation. HTH~

Thanks so much guys, but do you think any type of plant (freshwater) would work for Dwarf Puffers?
