I got a new tank for some shrimp the other day who I think are under threat in my old tank. Just ghost shrimp as I want to try and breed them although its going to be used as a quarantine for some dollars with fin rot I think.

I used half clean water (which was treated with tapsafe), half water from my 3 year old tank. I was also due to change the carbon in my old tank so I just dumped the old stuff in the new tank to speed bacteria growth up. I also put an ornament from the old tank to the new and some leaves from a plant I cut back.

I tested everything after 24 hours and its ok.

When can I put them in?

Thanks in advance

you wont be able to treat the fish in the tank with the shrimp in as most shrimp will not survive meds , many meds contain copper which will kill shrimps instantly
water doesn't carry beneficial bacteria , you need to add some floss or sponges from your old tanks filter to the new tanks filter that is the only way you can clone a tank , the carbon will have to be removed as soon as any meds are added to the tank to treat any fish
unless you add fish to the tank as soon as the filter is cloned any the bacteria will quickly die as it will have nothing to live on

the best bet when having a quarentine or hospital tank is to either run a small filter in your tank along side your current one and remove it when you need to use the quarentine/hospital tankor to use exsisting sponges and clone a small filter to run in a qt tank when needed
