Hi all,

Having just set up my 24G nano cube, i wanted to get some info on things that are appearing!! Live rock was added a week ago today, and things are starting to develop!

Heres a picture of the tank:

Is this a bristleworm?

If so is he ok in there?? or should i remove it??

And also I have this white 'stuff' growing:

Anything to be concerned about?? Also not sure if you can see the other growth, which appears to be some kind of stick like thing??

Thats it (for now!!) any feedback would be great, as i want to make sure that what is in the tank is ok to be in there!!

Im not a saltwater person, but i know that that thing is bad news

You definitely think its a bristleworm then? It doesn't appear to have the spikes on the sides like the ones shown on that link??

I dont know buddy, it looks like one to me going by the pic...

I dont actually know much about this, im more in to livebearers and bristlenoses.

Sorry but good luck :)

Leave it to FW only keepers to be completely unaware of info regarding classes/phyla of animals other than fish.

The worm is a bristleworm and an excellent (some would argue needed) scavenger. The white growth I am not so sure. Leaving them both will do no harm.

To be fair m8, i only gave him link to what these worms was... i also told him that i was not experienced in these worms.

I am the white growth expert. Check out "My Refugium" ...thats my journal.

The white stuff....does it look like spider webs? If it does, try taking out the rock and smelling it. If it smells like a dead carcass you can be sure its live rock die off. Probably a not completely dead piece of sponge or hard coral.

Some will tell you to keep it in and let your tank cycle...I couldnt because the rock was so large and was seriously taking over my tank. It was ridiculous. So I removed it completely and went with mor lava typ rock with encrusted algae material growing allover it. Now things have evened out.

Sorry if I offended anyone, I was just kidding. Certainly meant no offense. :) I will be sure next time to add a smiley face.

The title of this topic and sub title is so funny, i keep laughing at it when viewing new posts lol

And people say I use too many of them, I guess we see what happens when you don't use enough :shifty: :D

Seriously though, looks like a common bristle to me. Great scavengers. Only the exceptionally RARE fireworms are dangerous, and as often is the case, it's the actions of the militant minority that give the majority of bristleworms a bad rap

Glad to amuse!! The song just popped into my head, and I thought how apt!!

So I'll leave the worm in there and see how it develops - if it gets huge i may remove him!!
With regard to the white stuff, it does look a bit spiderweb like, it started out fairly 'whispy' but seems to have attached itself to the rock a bit more, there a few patches on different pieces of rock.
I wasn't sure if this was something that would be cleaned up when the CUC go in (upon which I will be seeking advice soon!!)
