What To Put Activated Carbon In?

So I am setting up my new tank and have put a piece of wood in and after not even 24 hours, the tank is a little yellower than I wanted it, I have a big bag full of activated carbon that I just wanna put in to clear the water abit, but nothing to put it in to put it in filter any ideas of something that I would have lying around the house?
