Well, I now have my male guppies (6) in their new tank, a 30g long.

I am currently runing a fluval 2, a fluval 1 and a cheapo mini filter. The fluval 2 is in there to keep what little bacteria there is alive before it goes into a friend's goldfish tank, whereupon it will be replaced by a newer filter as it is a bit noisy for my liking. The guppies are LOVING the high water flow, they really look a lot more active and clearly enjoying the space.

But I would like some more fish in there too.

The LFS has some beautiful rams in, and I was leaning towards a pair of them but I was chatting to someone in the LFS (not an employee, just a fellow fish obsessive!) and she warned me that they can be diggers... my tank is semi-planted and I don't want anything that's going to cause too much chaos. She said they might also have a go at the gups.

As an alternative I have been considering a trio of honey gouramis... but I suspect they would not like the high water flow as much as the guppies do.

I don't want anything that is going to eat my guppies / nibble at them.

So are corys / otos my best bet? Or are there any other small-to-medium fish I could put in there. Maybe some platies? But would they be okay single-sex? I don't want to be overrun with fry.

Any ideas appreciated!

Yeah I think a small group of female platys would be fine

as for bottom feeders, apart from the oto's and cories mentioned, you could add a small group of shrimp i.e. ghosts or cherries etc.

Are you looking for fish or inverts?

There are a lot of compatable fish for guppies. Cories are very cute. So are Oto's i just recently got some and they are adorable. Uh there are also like other livebarriers, smaller tetras, and dwarf Gouramies. Maybe you would like Honey gouramies.

Yes, but I am worried about how they would get on with the high water flow. I know they are labyrinth fish and everything I have read indicates they prefer a heavily planted tank with not too much current. My tank is semi planted and has a lot of flow.

Mollies need salt, but corys can't tolerate it so I don't think they would be a good mix. I do want either corys of some sort or some otos I think.
Almost everthing is labelled "community" at the two pet shops within walking distance of my house... even bettas, most of the cichlids etc, so not much to go on!
I think I am going to hunt down some shrimp and see how I get on with those to begin with. Maybe I will just end up with a tank full of guppies, shrimp and snails! That wouldn't be so bad!

you could try some bottias, i have several in my tank with a high water flow and it doesnt bother them and they dont bother my tetras also as they are mostly bottom feeders they keep the tank clean. shrimps are great entertainment as well I have an armored shrimp and he's a right caracter, anyway good luck.

I would say the tank is slightly too small for botias, bearing in mind that you would need a group to keep them happy.

Kuhli loach on the other hand, could be a possibility (As would dojo loach depending on the temp)
