Hi all, I apologise if you answer these on a regular basisi but I'm completely out of my depth at the moment. I've just acquired a 7ft x 2ft x 2ft tank and have no clue what to put in it. Just to give you some ideas I currently have a 4ft x 2ft x 1ft tropical community tank, and have never dealt with a bigger tank than this.

I'm really stumped as to what would look good in this new tank, I just can't think of anything.

Any ideas?

well you've loads of options with a tank that big, why don't you give us an idea of what sort of thing you like and want and we can tailor some suggestions to you.

some of the options i'd look at are

- new world cichlids, get an oscar, JD, few other companions, couple of plecs, shoal of SD's etc
- african cichlids, done well i think an enormous malawi tank looks stunning
- oddballs, not sure if the tanks big enough as it's not my field of expertise but i'd be looking into getting some big catfish, maybe rays, arrowana's...... like CFC's tanks basically
- reef - i would absolutely love an enormous reef tank like that but it's a lot of money and work

or even upgrade your community to that tank and do something different with your old tank

Lol i'd love plecs, have 1 at the mo and hes gorgeous ... would post pics if he'd stay still long enough.

Was actually (stupidly) just watching a program on artificail reefs created on sunken ships etc and was wondering how feasible it would be to re-create something like that - ie. create a replica part of a ship / plane and build a reef around that.

I would absolutely love a reef tank but not sure about the cost. I did have a silly thought at the beginning of planting it and filling it with sailfin plecs and cardinal tetras (cause I love them )

Basically because the missus has got to live with it, whatever goes in there has to be colorful. Maintenance isn't an issue as (sad as it may be) its something we enjoy doing together.

oh i know what I'd do. heavily planted, discus, few shoals of cories and tetra's. stick to just a couple fo species it'd make an absolutely stunning tank :good:

Oooooooooooooooo lucky you to have a 7ft tank
I would have Discuss, it'd be stunning!!

Same ass Miss Wiggle, id Defo make a Heavily Planted tank have 9 Discus in it. and then get a shoal of cardinals and 12 Corys for the bottom. maybe a few smaller plecs. like the L260.

Well you know I think I'm gonna have a look into this discus idea. Sounds really nice and i do love how they look and also it would let me have a plec :D which is something which always makes me happy

have to be careful with plec's and discus, a lot of plec's are very very messy and discus like it very very clean. it can be done but you must be extra careful which plecs you choose.
