Hi,

I haven't had a tropical tank of my own since I was 7, which my dad helped me look after.

I'm now 16, and I have recently saved up enough to buy a very small tank.

I cannot say the amount of gallons or litres it can hold, but is is hexagonal, 12 inches in diameter, and 14 inches deep (bottom to water surface), and each side of the hexagon is 6.5 inches

I know the tank is very small, but I was just wondering which sort of fish would suit the tank...

I would prefer a few different types of fish, I.E not just different types of tetra for example, but if I must, then so be it... But I just thought I'd ask some people who know what they're doing.

Thanks in advance, Nez. :good:

According the the Aquarium Volume Calculator (for a hexagon) on this site:
http://www.fishtanksandponds.info/resource.../tankvolume.htm
Your tank holds 49.48 litres/11 gallons (UK)/13.09 gallons (US).

With stocking the tank, do you like cories? Maybe a shoal of 6 Corydoras hastatus or Corydoras pygmaeus with a school of 6 neons/glowlights/other small tetra, and a honey/dwarf gourami? Or maybe base the tank around a male betta, but beware, not all male bettas get along with other fish. Or a female betta community tank with atleast 6 females, but again, this does not always work out. What about african dwarf frogs, snails, or shrimp? Platies....guppies...endlers...

Before considering fish, you need to set up the tank with a heater, filter and start a fishless cycle. Remember to sue de-chlorinated water to fillt he tank up (just add a water conditioner to tap water and the conditioner willr emove the chlorine). You can read all about fishless cycling and why it's necessary by reading the links in my signature (plus there's other useful info. as well). If you have more questions, search the board or feel free to ask :)

As for stocking...
I miscalculated your tank's size so I'll now go off to find a post I wrote a while ago that might help you :p

However, if you're flexible on inhabitants, consider dwarf frogs or shrimp or snails.
With apple snails (and some other species as well), there are lots of varieties available and you can breed them yourself and even sell them on (just look at pictures of the fantastic blue ones  lol). Take a look at these: http://www.rainbowsnails.com/pictures
I'm a particularly big fan of shrimp myself - there's lots of species and, in a planted tank, they can look amazing: http://www.petshrimp.com/

Thanks for the help

I've already set it up with the filter, heater and let it cycle etc.

Meg, does the tank actually sound big enough for all that?
