Hi all

posted this yesterday and received no replies. so second go.
any ideas what the white band is at the top of angel's fin?
Just noticed it a few days ago.

The fish is eating and acting normally.
water stats good.
Was having the occasional battle with an undersized firemouth, though the firemouth recently died.
I wondered if it was a healing battle wound?

The possible issues are fungal, bacterial, or fin nipping.  I would suspect the latter from your photo and comments.  Fin nipping is actually more serious than it might seem with just a nipped fin.  The stress on the angelfish is considerable, and even if the physical nipping does not occur again, the presence of the culprit in the same tank can cause severe stress that may lead to other health problems.  I never allow this to go on.

The nipped fin can attract fungus, or may become invaded by a bacterial infection.  Monitor closely; it is not wise to treat for either unless they become serious.  Helathy fish that are not under stress will usually shake this off and the fin will heal, though it may not always regenerate.

Byron.

Thank you Byron. I have noticed an improvement and the white stripe is widening but fading. I think as the top of the fin must be growing out. I'm sure the culprit was the firemouth, who probably died of battle related stress or injuries
