I inherited this fish when I bought a used tank, they told me it was a parrot. I posted a while back under the wrong cichlid section here (africans) and was told that it was a convict or a parrot or a weird hybrid. Well i'm positive it is not a convict but I was thinking it might be some sort of cross. I did a google search and couldn't find any parrots that look like this guy. Let me know what you think!!

This pix is from a month a so ago

I would have said Parrot x JD but tbh i'm not even sure they can hybridise?

so i'd say its Possibly just a flowerhorn x parrot

Like I said in your other thread. Its a regular parrot though its just had most of the red devil/midas genes.

The second picture looks very firemouth shape to me (except for the face) Its a very lovely looking fish though

Your fish actually is a parrot though just one that has a lot more of the RD/Midas genes. I've had one like that, it looks like its not far off changing colours.

He does look quite a bit like your fish.

I know I posted about him before, I just thought since it seemed as though he was changing colors I would try again in a more suitable section. I agree that the first picture I took of him looks quite a bit like a convict but the second picture he looks a lot different. I thought perhaps the updated picture would help me ID him. I did a google search on parrots and didn't see any with even similar coloration. Is it common for regular parrots to have stripes? I guess it doesn't really matter what he is but I can't help but be curious.

Yep its very common for young regular parrots to have stripes. They get their colouration from the parent fish which is most likely to be red devil/midas cichlid with syspilium cichlid.

Here is a young midas cichlid before it changes colour.

Now if you imagine the 2 fish combined you have something similar to your own fish.

Here is another juvi BP(more regular shaped)with stripes
