Hey guys! I have an API water testing kit, and it tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph and high range ph. Does anybody know what high range ph is?
It's been bothering me for a long time now, and the results are different every time I test for it, though all the other results are stable.

I'm not really worried, I'm just curious. What's the point of it?

Thanks! :good:

Generally if you get a reading on the normal ph reading test on the highest level, then you need to test with the high range test to find the actual ph of your water. Ie, normal test comes back 7.6, high range comes back at 7.8 (or whatever they are, cant remember now), then you have a ph of 7.6 - 7.8.

If its at 7.6 on the normal, and 8.0 on the high range, then its 8.0, because the normal range doesnt go high enough to test it.

Hope that made some sense.

Low pH test has a range from 6.0-7.6

High ph test has a range from 7.4-8.8

So if you test the water and the result on the pH test is 7.6 then use the High pH test and see if the result comes back as 7.6. If it is higher then you will need to use the high pH, as the normal ph cant give a accurate result. If the results are the same then only use the normal ph test. The tests overlap each other.

Agree with everything that has been said here.

Each test can only measure between a certain range so the normal PH test as mentioned ranges from 6 - 7.6

If you test your water and it comes back lets say at 7 then you dont need to use the high range test. If it comes back at 7.6 then you would need to use the high range to check it wasnt higher than 7.6.

If your PH was say 8.2, it would only read at 7.6 on the normal PH test because that is the highest it can read up to, so you would need to move across to the high range PH test to get an accurate reading.

Okay. Thanks. This makes sense. The weird thing is though, my ph is always a stable 7.5, but the high range is 7.5, sometimes 7.4, sometimes 7.8. It's really weird. Thanks again! :good:

I have a low reading on the ph test 6.2 and a reading of 8.2 on the ph high test do I go with the 8.2 reading?
