What Is Flashing?

I see people discussing "flashing" as a sign of illness. What is it?

It is when the fish try and 'scratch' themselves on the substrate or decorations in the tank.

Perhaps the most common illness associated with it is Ich.

As above but its a very quick movement, usually against gravel or rocks etc and just trying to scratch their sides on something. Flicking sort of movement.

It's not always a sign of illness, sometimes fish just get itchy and rubbing on a good, rough piece of driftwood or gravel will do the trick.
