What Illness?

I have an immature tank that had very bad stats for a while so I know this was a major contributing factor.

my stats are now Am between 0 n .25 (im afraid to do a water change as i am giving the tank myxazin and I dont know that I wont over dose the fish re-adding the meds. it increased to this level from 0, having been 0 for a few days after med started. med ends tomorrow so think can change then? is that right?) nitrite 0 nitrate 40, pH 7.8 but is same as my tap.


I have lost two guppies... one died from stress from a gourami attack. ( i think)
Second died from being very bloated and gasping/hiding away at bottom of the tank.


This third guppy is bloated, all though not as much as the forementioned guppie. he has slight orange marks where his side fins meet his body. any orangey red marks that were on any other fish in the tank has cleared up during this course of myxazin. He is gasping a lot in the bottom corner of the tank and my two remaining guppies are sorta protecting him like they did with the other one that died.


what illness is this, if infact it is only one, and what can I do for him?

Immediate water change and increase aeration in the tank with bad water quality.
When you use meds and have to preform water change you just add the correct amount of med
back to the water removed.

what is the correct amount to add medication wise?


every dose from the four days? or just one days dose?


and whats wrong with him

increase airation by leaving any hoods or glass covers off the top and add the biggest airstone you can to the tank, if its not a big one you have, go buy a big ase one, their cheap.

hes even worse today . i have the biggest airstone I can fit in the tank, I dont know if i can get any more air in my water as theres bubbles on the top... i think that means its o2 saturated?


he was hidden way down deep in a corner, i guess hiding from attacks so now he is in the net at the top.

stillawaiting advice on how to do water change and redose meds.

do tyhe water change, say 50%. now halve the tanks maximum water holdage and thats how much med is still in there.

if the med for instance says 1 cap per 20gallons, and you empty 60 gallons of a 120 gallon tank, then youd have to compensate for that 60 gallons you took out and replaced, so youd put in 3 capfuls.

I have a 20gallon tank.

I have put in just slightly over 5ml a day for four days now, today being the fifth and final day of the course of treatment. I think the guppy will die today

sorry to hear that dude. i guess your aim now is to find out what happened and make sure it you know what to do next time.


as to explanation of what i said befor

if you have a 20gallon, then say youve changed 10 gallons of the water.=50%

read the bottle of meds you have. it should say how many capfuls to how many gallons.

if it says 3 capfuls to 5 gallons then youd add 6 capfulls.

of course youd have to adjust what i just said to how many capfuls your bottle says/ per so many gallons.
does that make sense now?
