Hello folks,
My Mom has been keeping fish for almost 20 years, and is now getting a little bored with the usual community fish, tetras and the like. She has a big bow-fronted 260 litre tank, and as a lot of the current fish are now dying of old age she's been wondering what to do next. Marine is out of the question, so we're looking for something tropical freshwater, but a little different. The one inhabitant any new fish have to get along with is the 14 inch common plec we have. All other fish can be rehomed if necessary, but he's staying.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Discus.. Rarer Corys.. there really are 10's of possibilities. :)

If you and your Mum have any idea of what species group you want to go with, we could then make a few suggestions which would appeal to you.

Something a little larger than the little schoaling fish we're used to - they look a little lost in the big tank. The problem is we don't know the characterstics of anything other than the usual community fish, so don't know what species groups are suitable. I love the personality of puffers, but would they hassle Plec? Discus are very pretty, but I heard they were really hard to keep?

yeah puffers generally need to be kept in single species tanks, best to get a smaller tank and either keep one or just a couple of them.

discus can be tricky but not as hard as they're made out to be!

why don't you browse the members pics section and have a look at other peoples tanks, you can get some great inspiration. It can be a littel hard for us to make suggestions as there's so mny different things you could do and it's really down to personal preference. If you spot something you like in the members pics section then hopefully they'll say somewhere in the thread what fish they are, if not then check out their profile or pm them to find out. Then you can look the fish up in the fish index which should give you an idea of size temprement etc etc :good:
