 I was wondering what other fish can go good with Gourmais? I have a 46 gallon tankwith no fish in it yet. I'm planning to get a few Clown Loaches, a couple Pearl Gourmais and Dwarf Gourmais. I want some species of fish that would look interesting and unique.

:/ Here a list a fish that I'm not sure would go with Gouramis:
Angelfish
Rasborara
Rams
Livebearers
Marble Hatchetfish
Danio
Tetras

Any suggestions on species of Gourmais are welcome! :D

I've just got myself a pair of dwarf neon gouramis and I've heard they prefer slow moving tank mates. Two lfs have agreed that my fish are compatible so look at my sig to see what I've got.

I'm getting a couple of honey gouramis in a couple of weeks, of the larger gouramis I think they're the most colourful, they are in my lfs anyway.

The gouramis have a different body shape to the other fish in my tank so make a nice contrast and they're funny to watch too.

As a regular rule, go for fish that keep to the middle and the bottom of the tank, for example cories, tetras and rasboras. Lively swimmers at the top might stress the calmer gouramis. This would mean that the danios, hatchetfish and livebearers are unsuitable.

As for angelfish, it really depends on the personalities of the fish. I've kept blue gouramis and angelfish together successfully, but I've heard that other people have had trouble with the combination.

Oh, and be careful about combining different kinds of gouramis, unless you only get females. Male gouramis can get aggressive towards each other regardless of species. Though since this is a 46g we're talking about, it'll probably be ok as long as the top of the tank has plenty of hiding places and vegetation.

my gouramis get on well with all the fish.

The Gold and Blue Live at the Top in the surface plants. along with the ABF.

The Neon, live among my fish and does not necessarily stay at one depth.
I may get another neon for him as comapany.

Hello,
We have a 55g tank, and Our gouramis get along fine with the rest of the fish in the tank. We have 2 angels, 1 turquoise severn, 1 redtailed shark, 1 rainbow shark, 4 lemon tetras, and 1 golden Killie wonder, that were all added to the tank with a Very large and mature Pleco.

We had 2 flame gourami's, and 2 dwarf gourami's. but one flame was not doing well, and passed on to that big tank in the sky. :rip: All other fish are fine, and seem happy. :dunno:

I think that part of the reason that everyone gets along ok, is that they were introduced fairly young<small> and are growing together. I would be worried about adding any new fish that were smaller now. But then, the golden killie is the smallest, and no one bothers it, it just floats along near the top and does it's thing....

I did think about getting some of the larger gourami's, but was worried that they would not get along with the smaller dwarf's...

I have noticed that with our tank, the gouramis we have don't stay near the top at all. they go all over, and Luv ot hang out in the plants around the middle or bottom..... I don't think they would care about anything taking up the top... at least not till they try to build a bubble nest...

;) I planning to only get female Gourmais because I heard that the males would a little too agressive and fight over territory. I'm going to get lots of plants so the fish would have places to hide.

I really wanted an Angelfish and it's great to hear that they can go with Gouramis. I've seen some in the pet stores that are the size of a quarter and I just want to be certain that the species woundn't fight. How many female Angelfish would you suggest? I don't know a lot about them so I'm not sure if they do fine alone or in pairs.

The trouble with angelfish is that it can be very difficult to tell their sex by just looking at them. I've had a couple of them for 7 years and I'm still not sure what sex they are!

I'd suggest getting a couple of them, this has worked well for mine. As long as they grow up together, they should get along pretty well regardless of sex. For very large tanks you can even have small groups of them (as long as they're not breeding that is).

Small tetras and small Danios should not be kept with full gouramis but they can be kept with dwarf gouramis. The rest of the fish there should be fine with all gouramis.
