What Exactly Is My Hermit Doing?

My hermit is going around my rocks smacking all the sand and debris off of them makeing a huge mess in my tank. He's been down on the sand doing the same thing. The weird part is there is no algae or food for him where he's making the mess. I also noticed he's been messing with some little bright white egg looking things that i've never seen before.

He is eating, sifting through the sand for particles of food and debris.
