I see my fish as a mixture of both, some of the larger fish i keep i see as pets as they are generally long lived and some even feed from my hand, the smaller fish i keep for breeding purposes i see as more of a hobby and tend not to become too attached to them.

i voted friends - i dont have many mates so my fish get stuck as substitutes

I said they are family, your real family gets feed and you get to grow along side with them, we all have emotions. I personally think of my fish as part of the family! :look:

hm, tough question. when i first bought my fish it was for decoration in my room, which, essentially, the Tetras were. but the Bettas became more of pets, and now my Platties, Loaches and Goldfish are all considered a mixture of friends (who keep their big mouths shut and listen when they need to) and pets (who love you unconditionally and do silly things to make you laugh!)

Some of mine are like friends and some are just a hobbie!! :fun:

I consider my fish my pets. When ever I'm with my family and there happens to be fish for dinner they say why dont you eat seafood? I say, "would you eat your dog?".... they dont get it

I say I have a mixture of pets, hobby and an extra source of income. I still love and always will eat seafood. Also when I was in S. Korea I even ate a dog or two.

I voted pets. I'm suprised so many voted hobby....all my fish are my pets just as my dog (Lhasa Apso named Madison) is. They all have names and their own personalities and I care very much about each one.

I consider my fish pets, especially the ones I've had for years. They all have names too.

I voted friends I dont know why but I did, I would consider all the animals in my house as friends.

I would say hobby. Just thought of what to do one day and I thought fishwould be nice.

Some of my fish are special, some are just part of the hobby. It's hard to get attached to a glowlight tetra, for example, when you can't tell one from another and you have a small school of them.

Goldfish, bettas, gouramis, etc. which are larger and have individual personalities are a different story, though. They are more like pets. :D
