Hi

I was once at a Fish Store and was told that Shrimps, snails & frogs DON'T count towards how many fish you can have in your tank. Is this true?

Any help appreciated
Sam

Yeah they kinda do but they kinda don't because they're not really fish. But they kinda do because they are aquatic creatures.

to my understanding they don't count because they don't produce as much ammonia, but at the same time they should be taken into consideration because they do produce small amounts of ammonia.

Even thou they are small waste producers dont mean they dont count, of course they do they still take up tank space

cheers Dane

Id imagine frogs can produce as much waste as a fish so yes.

I imagine they subscribe to the 1" per gallon fish "rule" which is why they told you that. Since shrimp, certain snails (not apple/mystery snail they produce a ton of waste  ), and ADF's produce much less waste than an average fish, you can stock them more heavily. However, the 1-inch "rule" only applies to slim bodied fish averaging less than 3" adult length.
