I'm looking for possible tankmates for my two cherry barbs in my ten gallon.

I'd like to address a few issues that have been pointed out to me that may cause an issue.
  • My gravel is kind of big so I think I can rule out cories
  • My gravel is almost white (don't know what problem it would cause but i've seen a lot of fish profiles were dark gravel is recommended)
  • I have no money
  • One of my cherry barbs likes to chase the other around so she may chase around other fish that I add
I feel like an old fragile soul and when I come home I want to be able to look at my tank and relax, not witness a masacre.(I recently witnessed some stuff with my bettas)(And then I lost another fish/different situation)

What fish are peaceful but still pretty and fun to watch?
 :fish: :flowers:

As people have said before, you should add some more Cherry Barbs. This may stop the chasing.

How many cherry barbs.
How many boys/girls.
I kind of want a black fish, some color constrast. (maybe black neon or emperor tetra. I just can't find a lot of info on them here)

a lot of the ppl on this board are in the UK, where your post is past midnight. Give it a day or so to generate more replies.

I don't know how many cherry barbs you have, but I would guess it is best to have 5-6 of them minimum. This would just about fully stock a 10 gallon tank.

Black neons also like to be with many of their kind, I would recommend 6-8 of them. However, if you already have 5-6 cherry barbs, that will be a very crowded 10 gallon tank.

If you insist on over-crowding it against the advice of some, I would urge you to at least get a good filter, and be very strict with your maintenance routine. By this I mean you want a filter that is rated for a 20-30 gallon tank to keep the water clean, and you ideally be sure to do 20-30% water change once a week minimum.

Anyway, good luck with the tank. If you do add fish, just add a few at a time. Don't get them all at once or you might find some fish getting sick from amonia in the water. (due to a mini-cycle)

add more cherry barbs, or if you dont want all the same species, then get a simalar, if not different color kind of barbs. 6 ot 7 total fish max though. i would reccomend that you just stick with getting more cherrys.

Yeah I keep forgetting about the time differance thing.  I'm considering the all barb thing. If not 5-6 cherry barbs, maybe 3 cherry barbs and 3 checkered barbs (if I can find them).

Cherry barbs are not schooling fish and actually do best in trios - 2 females, 1 male. If you can get one more that is a little larger or at least as big as your existing two and re-arange the tank before you add it, some of this aggression will stop. It's essential that you get the sex ratios and sizes right or else the new fish will simply be bullied by both existing ones. Cherries also won't normaly bother non-barb species.

Whatever other fish you include must not be a schooling species as you won't have room for an adequately sized group. that means otehr barbs and tetras are out.

What I'd personaly suggest is 4 endler's livebearers or 4 male double-sword guppies. The males with delta tails are more likely to get nipped so are best avoided. Obviosuly, you can get all sorts of colors with these livebearer species. Another you could try is a single male honey gourami. This would be fine along with the 4 endler's and 3 cherries and the wild type is yellow with a black ventral area - so you get a bit of black too. You'd be fully stocked after this.

Here's a thread I started with various 10 gallon stocking suggestions. Like I said, you should technicaly avoid the schooling fish - but maybe you can get some ideas: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...8&hl=gallon
