Well Water

ok well i have well water with a lot of iron in it. and when winter comes around for some reason every time i do a water change i can see particals floating in the water and it kind of clouds up and then i go by poly pads and that works a little bit and then i put another set in after the other set and then my tank looks ok but that takes two weeks. and then by that time i need another water change. so i was wondering what happens if i go by water at the store. would that be ok or no?

water from the store would be better. just make sure you get "purified" water and not distilled water.

o really that makes me feel alot better. i mean all my readings in my tank are perfect, and i havent added anything new. it just happens when the seasons change. and its like i can see floating particals and it gets really aggrivating. but if i go get purified water then i should be ok. well how much do u recommend for this first change. becuase most of the time i change my water every two weeks and do 10% but there are a lot of particals should i go like 20 % and then after that only do like 10% changes... thanks for the help guys.

Buy your self a whole house filtration system. Runs about $50 and filters out down to 5 micron. I have a well to so i know what your going through. Although I don't think we have a lot of iron just really dirty brown water. The filter makes it pure.

yea i agree.
i would do a 20% change every week depending on size of tank. i do a 30% change every week in my 30g and a 10% every week on my 10gs so it depends on your tank size and bio load and filter power.

and also tobash where do you live that you use well water?

i live in the states. we have a house filter i think. but i know we have a water softener. and when i use the water softener it really screws things up. so the only place that there isnt water softener is from the out side. well the problem is my pops turns the water off for out side in the winter so when i do a water change i have to turn the water back on. but then i dont know the iron gets really really bad and my tank looks horrible then so i figaured if i was only doing like a 20 % water change every 2 or 3 weeks buying water from the store wouldnt be so bad. and yes i know i should try to change the water more. but im always out of state or doing something and when i do get home i like to enjoy the tank.
