I have 3 platies in my tank (1M + 2F). A little bit of history... About a week and a half ago, i noticed that some of my fishes started flicking themselves. so i started them on a copper based medication to eradicate any external parasites. soon enough the flicking stopped and things have been back to normal for about 4 days now. During this entire time and now my water quality is fine: ammonia & nitrite -0; nitrate - 20. However now two of my platies seem to be engaging in a weird behavior.

the male platy would turn itself to its side and a female platy will peck on his side. Sometimes when he sees the mickey mouse female he will immediately turn on his side and welcome the peck from the female. sometime he would chase her away momentarily. he eats and looks fine. and when i go upclose to view them they then start begging for food. I've attached a video of this behavior. Anyone have any ideas as to what this might be??

Hm i can't get the video to work, however, it could be posible that your female platy is simply more domimnant of the male and the male turning himself on his side is doing an act of submission (as pecking is usually an act of domimnance or agressive in fish like platys). Either that, or your male is actually a female and what you thought was a female is actually a male etc and that is just normal pre-birth behavior from the platys if one of them is expecting fry.
Anyway, those are just my theories ;) .

Hmm.. i dunno why the video didnt work. i've uploaded onto youtube as well. Regarding the sexes of the platies, i know for sure that the male is a male and the female is a female though she might turn into a male if she is still young. but i dunno if the male can turn into a female. also i dont think the female is pregnant though i think its a bit difficult to see with her color. see if this works

couldnt they feel the vibrations of those huge bangs in the background? if i were a fish and that was going on around me and vibrating through my tank id start zipping around too.

it doesnt only occur in that one spot as i've seen them do it in quieter areas as well. The water level is temporarly recessed to increase oxygen flow due to the medication.

looks like the one is nipping at the other one. my female krib is aggressive towards the male now, but when i first got them it was the other way around and she would be very unhappy, but now she shows she is more powerful and hes just her, well her btch
