Weird Orange Bubbles/ Foam

i set up a new fish tank 2 weeks ago, and i put some bacteria starter in, and a few days ago, some wierd orange/ brown foam started to accumulate at the top of the tank. Trying to pop the bubbles doesnt do much, becaese they dont pop that well, it kind of looks like scum, the water is perfect, except for the bubbles, no fish yet. could the acteria starter have created the foam?

what could be the cause of the bubbles? what are the bubbles? how can i get rid of it?

Sounds like it could be muck and dust from either gravel or sand.

Do you have a power head or something to disturb and break the surface film of the water.

what substrate do you have?
what bacteria starter have you used?
have you got any thing else in the tank ie ornaments?
have are your water stats ?

this was a tank i was trying to set up quickly, because we are moving to georgia (12 hours) and this tank is to recieve my fish from my tank here, because i wont have time to set up my tank in ten minutes....

Just normal brown gravel, i bought it from walmart... its pretty fine, it washed pretty clean, and made no dust when i put it in.

I used stress zyme, about 20 ml, half of what the bottle said to use in two weeks, its a 20 gallon tank.

i put a fake piece of driftwood in the tank from walmart ( i hate fake decoratoions, but it needed some shelter for the fish while plants grew).

ive got some aponogenton bulbs growing quite nicely in there.

the water is 0 nitrate, 0 nitite, medium soft water, and the ph is 6.8. the temperature is 80. lights on 12 hours a day.

the filter is disturbing the surface of the water.

ive got to drive the fish up on sunday, because we have to be up there for school on monday.

i really hate buying stuff from walmart, but i was in an extreme rush because i only had a few days at my dads house, and there arent any great pet stores in georgia. my dad is baby sitting the tank now, and is really concerned about this orange foam.....

my dad keeps saying the bubbles dont pop like normal bubbles, but i dont know what he means by this....

Where in georgia are you moving to? if your close, you can pick up some filter media from me (depending on how big your tank is, ext.) as id be happy to give you some. What id do is just empty the tank out (if your getting filter media) and start fresh kinda.

im moving to gainesville, i think thats an hour or two north of atlanta, but thanks for the offer, but i dont think ill have time to do that, we are driving up on saturday and i dont have time to cycle the tank and stuff again. thanks again :] i was going to call my dad now, but realized its kindof late, so im going to call him early in the morning and ask about the foam again.
