I found 2 more water moccasins the other day at another little water hole in the middle of the woods. The place is infested with frogs which is probably why the snakes are here and appear to be good and fat. I was photographing the one in the water and moved around to get a closer shot when I almost stepped on the one on shore. I never even knew he was there. These snakes are amazing and seem to be very aggressive as they do not back down to anything and actually move toward you when they feel threatened! I never harm the snakes and try to leave them where they are lying unless they start getting too close, then I will move them with a stick. Here are the photos:

cool pics :) glad to hear you leave them alone :)

Ick. Don't reckon you should be moving them with a stick though, reckon you should just get out of their way.

I hear they "charge" but usually back off - but I wouldn't like to be the one to stand there and try that out.

I won't show this to Dan, he is obsessed with us "city folk" getting bitten when we move back, but I think I'll probably outrun him when we see out first one

You've got a lot more nerve (or something) than me. I don't like being around snakes and definitely wouldn't go looking for them. I've only seen one cottonmouth in my life and he was big. He was black in color and when he popped that white mouth open, it was easy to see where they get their names. Most of what we see around the ponds and lakes here are just the non-poisonous brown water snakes. Great pics!!

They're so beautiful
If only they weren't venomous, I love that big broad head.
