Hi Guys,

I have had a pond for 15 years and have goldfish in it.

Up until recently the water would only require cleaning about every 6 months, as it would stay clear and clean, sorry I should of said that I have a basic pump running in it.

Our local council had decided that we required to have floriude put into our water, since this has happened my water becomes really dirty within a week, it starts clear then goes cloudy, then just really dirty and I can't see the fish.

Does anyone have any suggestions to avoid this problem. :(

depnds on the other filtration you have.

a pump wont do much on its own.

i would imagine you need a filter pod before topping up your pond to remove the floriude before it touches the water, im not clued up on floriude except knowing its a chlorine replacement (at least i think it is)

hi
its sounds like ammonia or nitrites or both
an ammonia or nitrite spike is usually accompanied or followed by milky water, a sudden deterioration of visibility should be an indication that the water needs testing. having solved an ammonia or nitrite problem, the cloudiness disappears as well.
a pic if you can get one would help too :hyper:

a bit more info needed please.....
what size is your pond?

do you filter, if so what and hows it cleaned?

does it only do it when pond is topped up?

have you had a algae problem lately?
as algae could cause cloudiness. algae growth suspended in the water can make the water resemble pea soup.

have you changed fish foods lately?
food could also be causing the water to cloud or change colour.

does it get rain run off?

they have been putting fluoride in water here for years i dought its the fluoride causing problems
