Hi all :good: , i'm currently treating my tank for ich and was wondering if i should carry out more frequrent water changes to try and romove the tomites or Theronts ( i think it's one of those 2)....what do you think?

Kind Regards, Thuggerz

Yup, that can definately help, especially for more stubborn cases. If you decide to go this route, do the water change based off of your meds schedule. If it is a re-dose every x days, do a water change right before that. If it is a leave this in for a week, re-dose the meds for however much you take out. For example, if you remove 10 gallons, dose for 10 gallons.

While doing water changes does indeed suck up some of the parasites, it is highly unlikely that this is making a significant dent in the population. At the very least, it may be reducing their numbers, but it cannot eliminate them.

However, a great majority of the ich medications work by oxidizing organic materials, i.e. the parasite, and by doing a thorough tank cleaning, you take out a lot of the other stuff than can also be oxidized and reduce the effectiveness of the medicines. All this stuff is decaying plant matter, decaying fish waste, etc. (anything organic), and all of that can be using up the medicine. So, a good tank cleaning before dosing is a good idea.
