yes my needlefish finally eats the freeze dried food, all i did was feed him goldfish for a week then starved him then it ate the freeze dried krill from my hand!, by the way id say needlefish are less picky about their foods than the peacock eels, i keep them both, and the eel is like over starved, he never touches the dead food and god knows if he is eating the worms or not, really needles arent that picky although they are labeled as straight piscivorous fish o_O

Not sure "lucky" is the word, but well done, and welcome to the world of advanced fishkeeping: getting difficult fish to feed in a healthy and inexpensive way without the need for live foods.

I find that the use of long steel forceps makes a big difference; I've been able to get things like hujeta gar to take chopped prawns and mussels by offering mouthfuls using forceps within 24 hours of purchase. Forceps allow you to wiggle the food about enticingly, without actually frightening the fish by getting too close. Once the predator learns who's serving the dinner, they often learn to approach the front of the tank when they see you, and will take just about anything that you offer them!

Cheers, Neale
