As a newbie I've bought Wardley Chlor Out and Wardley Water Condititioner from Tesco.

The first one gets rid of Chlorine and Chloramines from tap water and the second one is supposed to "...help break down fish waste, reduce odours, inhibit algae growth..etc".

Worry is for the Chlor Out, I've just seen on a website that this may not actually remove the Chloramines but something called Sodium Thiosulphate instead. Any clues as to whether I should use something else or is this fine?

The Water Conditioner - is this gonna be any use or will it give me more problems that I could do without especially with messing with the nitrogen cycle?

Any ideas friends?

Cheers

Jimmy

I use Chlor-Out and I've never had any problems. It says on the bottle that it removed chloramines, so if there is evidence that it does not, you should report that to Trading Standards. It is illegal in UK to make false claims.

Sodium Thiosulphate is a chemical you use to remove Chloramine, you would not want to remove the Thiosulphate. Are you sure you read it right? ;)

I would expect any dechlorinator to have Thio in it, it is cheap and effective.

I too use Chlor Out and have never had any problems with any of my tanks. A single bottle goes a loooooong way.....

Cheers, Eddie

If you've had good results then i'm happy to use it too.

Any idea on the Water Conditioner?

Cheers

Jimmy.

Sorry, not used the Water Conditioner so can't comment. I've used similar products only when I have got them as freebies, not something that I would tend to buy.

Thanks for the replys but one final thing. The measurements on the back of the bottle talks of gallons. Are these US gallons or UK gallons...?

US gallons, about 4 litres or 0.8 UK gallons.

IF you don't want to use Chlor-Out, then I use Stress Zyme to decholrinate and stress coat to help keep the fish's scales in good shape...
