I recently set up a small 160l mbuna tank running a a fluval 4plus internal filter, as it's a small tank I think I would be best overfiltering (OK, the 4plus is technicaly over filtering as it's rated to 215l), I was thinking either a Fluval 205 or 305 would be a good option. I run a 305 on my 210l community tank so I am familiar with the setup etc.

I would need postage as I live in N. Irealnd.

PS, if the 4plus gets p\x'd or sold it will come with new media as I need the mature foams to seed the external (unless of course I get mature media with it).

Thanks all.

I have an 180 litre tank and a fluval 205 and another site is reporting that my 205 is not good enough for my tank. The reason the other website is saying that the 205 is not good enough for my tank is that the fluval 205 is over rated by the maker and will only do upto 151 litres. Maybe other people can confirm if this is correct that some companies do overrate their filters. just given you the heads up, as im now having to buy another filter based on that finding.

that same site is rating your 4plus filter at 216 litres. so by the looks of it if you was to buy the 205 u would be downgrading.

Yes, from what I can tell, the 205 has a flow rate of under 700 lph, my 4plus has 1000lph but obviously there would be more media in the 205 which is where I am coming from. I think the 305 would be better, it has the same flow rate as my 4plus but a laod more media.

I don't know if my mbuna should have a lot of current, would flow rate be an issue or is it surface area of the media that I should be concerned with?

Maybe I could run my internal with a 205? I'd need to sort out the flow though so the fish wouldn't be swimming upstream all the time  .
