Anybody here have experience shipping shrimp and have some extras? I was wanting to get some for one of the tanks, but figured I would ask here. I am willing to pay.

I have shrimp, the problem is the the shrimp are cheap and the shipping is not. You would need to oay me as much as $75 in shipping if I send you 12 or 15 shrimp which I would not charge more than $2 each. I started with 10, added 5 for the blue dreams and have now sold about 250 to date. If magnum decides to stay local and not take my free shrimp offer and he pays the shipping, I have 10 or 12 blue davidi and some number of the red cherry as well. But I have mostly blues.

Btw- my group of the reds came to me abut 15 years ago and they are still thriving a bit too small 5.5 gal. tank. The blue are in a 15 gal.

i have never shipped shrimp but I have shipped plenty of fish. I do know how to ship shrimp. The key is to add something to the bag onto which they can grab. Not doing this tends to drive them crazy. When I bag them to sell at auctions I add a sprig of anubias, Java fern or long leaf Hygro to the bag for this purpose. Even a piece of floss might work. Anything not toxic and that they can grab onto will work.

Overall, it is probably cheaper to buy them locally if you can than to have to pay for overnight shipping. If you wait for warmer weather it is less risky and wont require a heat pack. Also if you are in NV and I in NY, that means overnight shipping is almost a must at this time of year.

I'm in NJ. I set my location to Area 51 as a joke :)

Depending on the type of shrimp it can be worth the costs that are involved in shipping. But if you would go for cheaper shrimps, I would doubt it if it's worth the effort. Isn't there a store or a shrimp breeder closer to you to keep the costs down?

My local fish store charges 7.99 per shrimp. Insane.
I got some bloody mary ones from a dude on ebay near me. I was hoping for some other colors. I figured I would give the forum a try.

Well, overhere at stores, even those more simple shrimp strains are sold for a high price. And as you know, they need to be in a group...

Near me, they sell 59$ Cad for 6 and 98$ for a dozen.

Culls are the way to go. I got 25 for 50p each + a small delivery fee.

You can ship via usps priority mail or ups 2nd shipping and shipping would be a lot cheaper. Shrimp can live a bit in good water.

Well until conner revealed he lived not too far from me, USPS was not an option. I priced sending a small box with 10-12 blue dreams to magnum. I chose the shipping as being on Tuesday by noon at muy end. Express was guarabteed by Friday and rither form of Priority was expected by Friday.

The night temps here are from the 20s F to just above freezing. A small box does not do well with a 72 hour (3x24) heat pack. The shrimp would be beyond cooked. Using a much bigger box and the sipping cost rises. Overnight, a 30 hour heat pack is fine. There is a big difference between how the 30 and the 72 generate heat output. Most of my boxes of fish going out in colder weather will both a 30 and a 60 hour. If the box is big enough it may use multiple of one or both.l

I stopped shipping fish a long tiime ago using the USPS. But most of my boxes going were worth 4 figures. I need overnight for that.
