One of my two Featherfins recently had what looked like an ulcer next to its fin. I treated the tank with Myaxin as stated on the packaging and it cleared up completely.

However, I noticed it had returned again a couple of days ago so started treatment with the Myaxin again. I checked the fish last night and it had two white sore/ulcer things on it.

I have just got in from work about an hour ago and it looks awful, ulcers everywhere and tail fins all ragged. Please see the pictures I have just taken.

It really looks sick and it doesn't look like he will make it.

Have also done my tests and the results were:-

Ammonia= 0
Nitrite= 0
Ph 6.0/6.2
Nitrate= 20

Dont know what to do, I am into my third day treating with the Myaxin and it doesnt look good.

Well I moved him to a hospital tank last night using tank water that contains the Myaxin. He still looks no better !!!.

I have a feeling from looking around on the net that the fish probably has fungus. In which case I am using the wrong medication and should really be using my Protozin.

Reading the packaging on the bottles it states 'do not use one within four days of using the other'.

Seeing as though my hospital tank is only 25 litres, I'm thinking whether it may be worth putting some carbon in the filter for a few hours, then doing a 50% water change, removing the carbon and dosing the tank with the Protozin. After all, both medications are primarily Malachite Green and I would have been due to put another dose of the Myaxin in tonight anyway.

Does anyone have any advice/thoughts regarding this ?

Cheers

Andy

Not really no. His whiskers have now totally disintegrated :( He is just on his side in the bottom of the hospital tank.

Cant help but think I may of made a balls up by using the Protozin as I have done a bit of reading up and found that catfish can't tolerate salt or copper. There is copper in the protozin and I added some salt to the hospital tank the other night !!

I did a 75% water change and put some carbon in the filter for 12 hours and treated with Interpet Fungus & Finrot last night.

Doesn't look any worse than he did yesterday but I can't help but feel I'm prolonging his agony by keeping him alive. I have attached some more pictures taken just now.

Poor fish man i hate seeing a fish jus b4 its gonna pass,

Poor thing.

It looks like a severe bacterial infection. You really need antibiotics in isolation.

Is the fish showing any of these symtoms.
Flicking and rubbing, excess mucas.

Have been treating with the Myaxin and its slowly starting to clear on parts of the fish. No flicking or excess mucus though. What anti-biotics can I get and where from ?

Thanks Wilder

I don't think myxazin strong enough to kill the infection. Once the meds stops it might just flare back up again.

Antibiotics are only available throw a vet in the uk.
You need an antibiotic like tetracycline.
You can only use the antibiotic in isolation, as antibiotics wipe the beneifical bacteria out in the filter.
