howdy all

i have a few breeding tanks on the go at the moment.
I have kribs in one, betta's in the other and 1 gravid molly and 2 gravid guppy in the third.
The strange thing about this tank is both guppy's havent gone full term yet but the molly is just about there.
the thing is the molly appears to be having 1 baby at a time, it had a baby about 4 days ago and 1 more 2 days which i watched be born but nothing since then and it's still as heavy as it was so i assume that it is still carrying more fry.

the question is can a molly delay the birth of more baby's or do they have them continuosly till there all out?

Thanks for reading folks

Manny livebearers can hold in young but in your case I haven't heard of that happenning before. It sound a bit like stress with the molly, I guess that's why she is holding them in..unless she is sick. Females normally hold in their fry because they are either stressed about the conditions they are in. I think your molly is stressed mabye try to keep that tank a bit dark or buy more plants for cover...just to make her feel better.

well now you mention it she may be sick.
i have a silver XL molly and have only over the last month kept livebearers,i always found egg layers more intersting for breeding.
on one side of the silver molly it had a yellow(ish) patch that looks a little rough.
is that ick?
and in which case are you saying that that maybe a reason she is letting them out slowly?
if so is it because the more she swells the more painful it gets?

i really do have to learn more about fish before i buy..

i've been keeping fish for 15 years and these are the first livebearers i have kept suprisingly..

thanks for helping!
