Hi

I have a small tank that I use an Eheim 2213 canister filter on.

Q) Can anyone recommend an EXTERNAL UV Sterilizer that can fit in-line to the standard Eheim hoses.

It does not have to be massive as I'm thinking 9W is more than enough (do they come any smaller I wonder). Cheap as poss please (I have kids, say no more).

Regards & TIA,

Andy

I have a Coral Life Turbo Twist 9w that I have used on 2 tanks. I didn't run it in line with the filters (one tank has HOBs anyway) as I wanted the ability to use it on more than one tank if necessary. I simply ran it off a powerhead. It worked great. I was very satisfied with how well it cleared up my green water problem. Here is a thread I did with photos of the progress. It worked even faster on my 75 gallon tank which I had already used it on. I just didn't think to take photos of it.

I have a green water problem at the moment and have considered a UV sterilizer. I was wondering what size i'd need for a 40 UK gal tank? and also any good ones to recommend? :)

PS: Sorry for the slight hijack of the thread but atleast i'm still on topic.

An 8W one would be ideal for up to 200L, i.e. fine for 40Gal

PS, hijack away, more info I get on this the better!

The really really dirty cheap po man's solution is to go buy some pothos house plants, take them out of the pot and wash the roots thoroughly, and either stick the roots in the water or plant them in the gravel. They're great nutrient suckers and prevent greenwater, according to how many you have in there.

I had a perpetual problem with greenwater until I tried this technique and have never had to worry about greenwater again.

Thanks for the tip, but all I'm really after is info on a cheap in-line UV sterilizer.

I do not have any algae problems as I follow heavenly E.I. path.

The one I used should be fine. I used it on both a 29 gallon and a 75 gallon. It actually cleared the 75 gallon quicker than the 29 gallon. I think I paid about $85 for it (probably in the thread I had in my first reply).

Thanks for the info guys, it looks like another purchase in this ever more expensive hobby is looming. Who cares because as Popeye would say 'I loves it I does' :good:

Still searching.... (blatant bump for which I humbly apologise. May I have the man-flesh flayed from my puny frame).
