well today i read a post on here (i cant remomber which one) and someone replyed to it saying that if you use a UV steriliser you have to have it on all the time (i do have it on all the time exsept when uning melafix and other medications that tell you to turn it off). and he said that if the UV is turned off the fish can die in the tank because their "sterile" environment can be comprimised and result if mass fish death.
so the question is, is this true or just something someone has decided sound right?

So, you're asking if you turn your UV Sterilizer off after it's been on, it will kill your fish? Absolutely not. I turn my off and on all the time and move it between tanks. The tank will get dirtier and the chances of getting fish diseases is higher without one on, but turning it off after it's been on won't kill them. :\

okay thank you,
it was just the person who i origionly read it off made it sound that bad.... thankyou for clearing it up
P.S. i cant remove mine so it was always going to be in (but i can switch it off) which is why i was asking.

Shang hi

You would of read that in my post :) dw about it, its really a bit of a myth, UV will only kill stray particles in the water column, not create a completly sterile environment :)

UV is as mentioned there to kill floating algea particles etc in the water that's it.
