Hi all, this is an URGENT REPLY NEEDED kinda Q.

i have had a sick female, in a breeding net, treated her now 4 7 days with melafix, but abt 2 change medicine to aquarium Treatment number 9, anti internal bacteria. but i am in URGENT need of help 4 the male! i have posted a few posts on this, and not had much of a reply, but she basically has a red spot on each side of her body, which im not sure if its tb, or an ulcer/boil. the male however doesnt have this.

i thought he was sulking next to her breeding net, which was close 2 the glass. i moved it to see y he was still sulking, only 2 find that he fell str8 2 the bottom, and then started doing backflips and summersalts.

As far as i no this is a sign of swambladder, but i think this is far more serious than just that. as he is also showing a very abnormal breathing pattern, and appears like he cnt breathe, as he is a dwarf gourami, he is not gettin enough air, as he cant get to the surface at all really, but is showing signs of trying to get there. im not sure, but looks like he is showing signs of fish tb.

I have tested my Nitrite, and ph, and they are both fine. but my nitrate is off the scale! with a bright red outcome this i believe is potentially harmful to the fish. i am planning on doing a 50% water change 1st thing in the morning, to try and neutralise the nitrate, and get it closer to normal levels which are save for my fish.

ive had him since i started adding fish to my tank, so he is 1 of my favs, i will do NETHING to help him survive!

PS i have also posted this in the emergencys area.

Can sum1 PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

i am really worried abt him now, as he is having his funny 5 mins all the time. i am going to turn the light off wen i have done the water change, to reduce the stress. but i NEED help. i wana no wots wrong with him!!!!

If nitrates that high you should be doing a water chang as soon as possible to get them down as its will not be helping to get him better, see if you can get a picture of the red spots so we can have a better idea of what is wrong...... :dunno: but get at least a 75% water change done a.s.a.p and add some aquarium salt to the water about a teaspoonful to every gallon

can i still add salt with the fish i have in that tank ?

i have just had an accident aswell, but hope to have sorted that in 5 mins. i did a 75% water change, n cus i was so worried abt the fish i 4got 2 turn off the heater, which has now melted the plastic surrond i had 4 it, and also got melted plastic stuck to the heater, so mums rushed dwn the shop 2 get a new 1. as i dnt wana put the melted 1 back in.

the red spots on the female aint as much of a problem as the males conndition, as he is basically on deaths door.

wots wrong with him ?

Get that heater out of the water, it sounds dangerous. Is it possible that the heater is the problem? Is it old?

When you get a new heater, please set it at an appropriate temperature and leave it on.

Have you been turning off the aquarium heater at night? That could also be the problem with your fish. Tropical fish need a constistantly warm temperature of 76-80 F (approximately). They shouldn't be cooled then warmed then cooled ect.

I also agree with the other posters... hope all goes well.

My current tank 10 gallons. (2ft long, 1 ft high, 1ft deep)

2 Blue dwarf Gouramis (Male and Female)
1 Kissing Gourami
2 Harlequins
1 Red Tailed Shark
1 Red Fin Shark
3 Female Guppys (should be pregnant!)
4 Male Guppys
2 Female Fighters/Bettas
2 Tiny Tiny Banded Loches(Sqiggles 1 and 2)

I was checking out your tank and just saw that you have a few too many fish in there.... the dwarf gouramies are about 3 inches each, the kissing gourami is much larger then you have 2 female bettas in with all those gouramis and with sharks as well?

I'm sorry but I think you may need to rethink these living arrangements

I'm just trying to see what the cause of the illness could be and it's a good possiblity that the Kisser has been beating on the dwarfs at night while nobody has been looking.... or maybe even the bettas have been doing it.

They are all crowded in that little tank and are probably stressed out and need to vent on each other.

Rite, 1stly i wana say that the heater issue was only 4 abt 10 mins earlier 2day. NO i do not turn the heater on and off, i am not stupid! The heater stays on, stays at the rite temp, and maintains a temp of 26 degrees C . the heater isnt old at all, as i have only had it abt 4 months. the problem was it was heating air, as i was doing a huge water change. neway, thats sorted now.

the idea that i have 2 many fish in the tank is rite, but it is only temp! as they are gettin a new home, which is 30" long (mums old tank as her fish are having a 40")

the kissing gourami isnt a problem as he has loadsa slime to suck off the tank walls. plus, he is best mates with the other 2 gouramis, they all get on great! i mite consider moving the bettas, but at the moment, i havent got the room. i was told they cud all live happily 2gether.

i have now started treatment of anit internal bacteria, and u will all be pleased 2 no that he is cummin along great, and that is just frm 1 day in treated water!!! the female is getting better 2, her spots are going dwn. and i hope that she will make a full recoverey.

Some miracle treatment i don't think it would be that is is because you have done the water change, and given them better living conditions to live in, the high nitrates was causing the problem, what medication have you put in,

Caroline, all I was trying to do was help you and you practically bit my head off. When people come here for help, you never know what they are doing to their fish and the helpers have to try to touch on all possibilities.

You never said that the fish were in that little tank temporaritly in your original post. I assumed that since they were in your signature, that it was a permanent situation.

Hope all goes better for ya

hiya, im realy sorry 4 the way i snaped earlier, but as u may have guessed, i was highly stressed, and being acused of messin with the heater isnt gona please ne1.

the treatment i am using is anti internal bacteria. number 9 in a series of meds 4 fish.

i started treating the tank, and then wen i noticed that they had perked up abit, i decided to set my tiny tank up, which is only 12" by 6" by 8" i think, and i have made it my hospital tank, and put the 2 gouramis in there, as they prob need time to heal, and just get ova their problems. i have added the treatment, tapsafe, everything i needed to the hospital tank, and they seem to be happy. i havent given them a light, as i was told it wud stress them out.

im hopin that the hospital tank will be a gud place for them 2 get back onto top form.

i will keep u updated. once again thanx 4 the help, and appologies 4 my outburst, i hope u can 4give me, as it was a very stressful time earlier.
