I have a Silver Tip Tetra and it has a bit of its caudal fin (i think you call it) either bitten off or something i dont know what, and one of its eyes looks kind of silvery and faint looking. The other side is OK and I was wondering if anyone knows what has happened. I have just bought it today so I don't know if it has happened since I got it, or if it has been like that in the shop.

The other fish I have is:

3 GloLite Tetra
3 Lemon Tetra
4 Silver Tip Tetra
2 Pearl Gourami
4 Neon Tetra

All the fish seem peaceful, but I noticed another Silver Tip Tetra occasionally chasing other fish.

Thanks Duncan

take it back - and always thouroughly inspect fish b4 u buy them

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What the ph of the lfs you got the fish from.
How long did you climatise the new fish for.
Does the eye look cloudy.
Was the fin damaged when you bought him or after.

The tank is around about 96 litres.

I think it happened after I bought them but not sure. They looked fine at first.

The eye looks a bit cloudy but it looks like it doesnt even have an eye.

When I bought them I put the bag in the water to equalize temperature. Then I let a bit of tank water into the bag.
I then let them swim out in thier own time.

I have only tested ammonia. It is 0.

I will test the other two just now and see, but do you know what it could be?

Does he look in a really bad way or do you think he stands a chance of surviving.
If so I would issolate him and use a bacterial med.
Is the eye bulging out.

He looks quite bad but he looks like he is happily swimming around.

The other silver tip tetras are still chasing each other and fighting. Sometimes chasing the other fish I have aswell.

The eye isn't bulging out, but it doesn't look good. It looks like the eye is missing.

Is there anyway I can seperate them? I only have the one tank but what else could I do?

Thanks.

Does the missing eye area look infected.
If you can't issolate him to a tank on his own I would add the med to the whole tank.
Fish will pick on sick fish and the stress of being chased won't help him get better.
