Two Questions Can You Use Window Cleaner On The Outside Glass Of A Fis

well i use windex on the outside of my fishtank and nothing has happened yet, so i'm assuming it's okay. if you just be careful enough not to get any inside the tank, it'll be fine. and about yo yo loaches, i've only seen them in the petstore once in awhile and they're usually really pricey. i would recommend this site if you would like to order them for a cheaper price and they also have a great guarantee and some information about caring about the fish: DR foster and smith once you're in the site, click live fish, corals, inverts and more and you'll find them under freshwater fish. hope this helped! :good:

i asked my LFS this question about using window cleaner. His advice was to make sure that the lid and covers were all closed completely so no over spray could get in :)

i jus spray onto the cloth im using rather than the tank.

then you dont have to even be near it when you do spray.

I do the same thing. I spray the cloth in another room and then wipe off the glass that way there's no chance that any will get in.

Thanks for the advice

the yoyo loaches were at a local Aquarium they had over 30 of them in 2 tanks...I was interested in them

In my opinion, window/glass cleaners seem to leave a 'sheemy glimmer' to make them sparkle - which turns the glass into a mirror - unless the room is completely dark.

I started using polish instead - and it cleans the glass but doesn't leave it too shiny - it's just normal furniture polish.

Windex makes a cleaning cloth that is already soaked with the Windex solution. Sort of like a baby wipe, except it’s soaked with Windex rather then… come to think of it I have no idea what a baby wipe is soaked with. Anyway, unless you accidentally drop the cloth in your tank you are guaranteed not to contaminate your system.

I find the best thing to use on the outside glass of the fishtank is newspaper and vinegar - the same method i use for my windows. The black ink plus the vinegar are really good at cleaning and shining it up!!! It really works as mad as it sounds.... :good:

As long as you use it on a cloth first and not a spray, you should be OK. I've been doing this for more years than I can remember with no ill effects.

newspaper dipped in water with a few drops of vinegar has got to be safer than window cleaners. The strong smell of the cleaners puts me off, if you can smell it in the air then surely some trace of that gets into the tank. Better safe than sorry
