Hi I was thinking about putting an eastern painted turtle in with some fish in a fish tank that I will be setting up. The turtle is a female and is about 5 inches. THe tank is 180 gallons. The fish will be maybe bala sharks, silver dollars,an arowna, a gar,an eel, a black ghost knife fish, knife fish and a stingray. I wont have all of this fish just some. The tank will be over filtered. To keep the tank will be well ventelated the back half of the cover is a screen. I will have a turtle dock and lights and all that. Will this work? And if it does would it be better to put the spray bar just under the water level or above it?

even though the fish are larger species, the turtle may end up eating them in the long run... best bet is not to put them together... another reason why not to is because turtles breath oxygen and need a dock to land on, any type of floating obstical would irritate the top level fish such as the arowana... thus causing the fish to either die from stress of take a taste of the turtle... (by which I mean eat it)

a gar needs a bigger tank, stingrays need a wider tank than the usual 180 gallon... and if it's wider than it's not big enough for an aro... those are the fish stock problems...

and the turtle... you'll end up with a ton of expensive dead fish and a fat turtle...

Oh I forgot to add that this would only be temporary. The turtle will be moved back to the koi pond that she currently is in. We r extending the pond so we need places to put all of the animals while it is being extended. I could hold off on the arowna or any top level swimming fish until the turtle is returned to the pond. I don't think that the turtle will eat the fish because she has been in the koi pond for a year and hasn't touched any of the fish. The fish in the pond range from 2-12 inches. Thanks

ok as I stated in the first post those wher just the fish that I was thinking about. It is wider than usual so I will be going with a stingray no aro or gar. Why do u think the turtle will eat the finsh in the tank but not in the pond? There are only 9 fish in the pind plus the turtle. 1 being 2 inches and than like 2 being 4 inches. Those r the only smaller ones. i don't no if they all survived the winter though.

Its a bad idea. I tried adding a turtle with my fish its not that good idea. the turtle never shows. And it makes the water bad.

If the turtle wants to eat anything in the tank, nothing will stop it. Especially don't put it in with a stingray.

EDIT: ^ Didn't see your last post before posting this ^
