Hello

Is anyone familiar with the Tropiquarium 55? I recently aquired one and it seems the filter, heater and lights are all on one plug. So i don't see how i can switch the lights of without switching the filter and heater off.

Anyone know? Or is the only way to rewire is all?

Thanks

Nathan

I have one and I only have the light now on the orignal plug. I took the heater and filter off and put a fluval 2 plus filter and 50w heater in instead.

I can't remember which or how - but there is definitley a manual setting to turn off light and bypass switch/timer. Sorry can't help more than that, but really no rewiring is needed if that's all you want.

Actually: try holding the Aut/Man button down for 4 seconds and try from there. Does your switch unit have a sticker on the inside ? It should explain it in there.

Thanks everyone

Umm...unlike the 68 it doesn't have a Aut/Man or timer. Just a switch.

I might just have to do that to.

There is a switch on the Left hand end of the hood that works the lights.

Also i want to put the lights on timer but i can't switch them off at plug without switching the others of :(

Sorry :/ I thought they worked on the same principal.

i got one, top of the lid, back left :)

PS. Lights cant be put on a timer without turning off the heater and filter too, its the only bad thing about the tank, i love tropiquariums

Oh well.

Tell me, why you like tropiquariums? I have the 68 and the 55 and both have quite bad things about them.

Personally I hate them. The filters might be good, but they are ginormous - which yes, I guess offers very good filtration. But are also very unsightly.
The whole all in one system is just pants. One thing goes and you're stuck unless you know how to rewire.
Then there are the lights :) where, in London the plastic lid gets caked in limescale and hardly any light comes through.

The tank is good for beginners though.

I hate tanks where you can't put the lights on a timer, I have a tiny 30l tank that's like that. Poor fishes (4 male platys) are often lit up half the night - when I fall asleep on the settee

I love my two Tropiquarium 68's, though. I don't even notice the filters, although I guess they do take up quite a bit of room. I've had to replace the motor on one of them but the wiring can't be that difficult - if I can do it :p

The light cover does need cleaning a lot (hard water in Nottingham too) but mine aren't too bad after 27 months - maybe I'll change my mind when they're older :D

I prefer the Tropiaquarium 68 alot more.

1. Becasue the lights are on a timer
2. Becasue despite the fact that the filters big, it does kinda go unnoticed-ish.

What i dont like about both of them is that you can't upgrade the lights without doing what Bloo did and re-design the whole hood.

I'm really dissapointed that the 55 can't be put on timer.

This is a quote from the Hagen Site.

I dont see how!

well, the filter is great, absolutely bloody superb infact!! best filter i have, better than the fluval 204 i spent £150 on. The filter can easily be convered up with some tall plants, the lights are good, very good for plants., easy access to teh tank having the whole lid lifting off as opposed to my Juwel Rio 180 which is in 2 sections with a huge lighting bar accross the middle. :)
