Ok so my java moss is out of control and I want to cut it back a bit.It started with a small amount tied along the length of a branch of driftwood. Now you would never know the wood was there and its lamost reaching the surface of my 8gal nano tank.Is the easiest way really to just get in there with a sharp pair of scissors and trim it like a hedge?

Heres a pic to show what its like and just for fun one to show how it started.

yeah just get your scissors in and take chunks out of it!!

depending what it's attached too you may find it easier to take the wood/rocks etc out of the tank and cut it there. depends on your layout though

Cheers, I cant take the wood out as it would disturb the tank too much.I'll just get the scissors in there.I'm paranoid i'll chop a shrimo in half though lol

stick your hands in the moss first and jiggle them around to scare the shrimp off ;)

Yeh im gonna have to bite the bullet and do it, hopefully they dont freak out too much.

Crikey Tom, didn't realise you had quite that much java moss! Its good actually as you can 'sculpt' it now into whatever shape you want when you prune it, it'll quickly bonce back. I wouldn't leave the trim to long, as over time the lower levels will turn brown and that'll look crap if you trim it later on.

GALAXY FRY! That's ultra cool, look after them matey, we need people to start breeding them to take the pressure of the dwindling wild stocks, nice work :good:

I'm about a quarter of the way into trimming it but im scared now that im exposing fry.The 2 I seen have dissapeared.

As long as they have some cover I would think they'll be OK. You've not got any highly predatory fish in there have you?

OOOHHHH I found galaxy rasbora fry!!!!!!!

Not suprised with all that java moss! Good job! Mind doing a water test (pH, temp, nitrate, KH, GH) and posting all the stats to help other people looking to breed them? :)

Ahhh I can still see one swimming about above the internal filter.

As for stats.

Off hand my ph is about 7.2 and my GH and KH are very low(lower than 50ppm).Temp is about 25.

Wow!

How long did it take to get that bushy ?

Co2 ? Ferts etc ?

Thanks Alot

Richie !

Couple of months, only thing I have added is CO2 although my substrate is florabase which probably helps.
