Treat For My Fishies...

I was told once that you should feed your fish a pea once a month to help it not get constipated. Is this true? Also, what would be a good 'treat' for a tank with 1 Leopard Danio, 1 Zebra Danio, 2 Tetras and a Pleco?

More danios and tetras the a shoaling fish and need to be in bigger groups.

I was just going to say the same thing.... your poor fishies aren't going to be very happy without more of their own kind....

My only concern is that I only have a 5 Gallon tank. Is it really ok to put more fish in than I already have?

what Plec do you have?

If its a Common then you should rehome it and with the space created from its removal get 3 more Danios and 3 more Tetras. They will all shoal together so it doesnt matter which you get. If you do this your tank is full if not a little overstocked but as long as you maintain the water quality itll be fine.

Thats him. I'm not sure what kind of pleco he is.

well lets jsut say...
he'll grow bigger than your tank
and being hte poop machine he is he'll foul up the water pretty fast

As an answer to your original question...I give my fish peas once or twice a week as a treat. A varied diet is good for the fishes digestive system and over all health.

My Tank is actually quite clean. I was worried about it getting dirty quickly but I haven't had any problems with it in that aspect. Another question. Has anyone here bought fish from Wal-Mart? or has seen the fish in Wal-Mart? I live in small town Saskatchewan where that is the only place to get fish besides a small pet store that really doesn't have very many choices.

If so, and if it is a Common then that fish will gorw to somewhere between 10-16" maybe more depending on food, quality of life etc.

On the treat subject not only should you feed a varied diet, pea being a good thing to feed, but IMO you should have at least one fast day a week....

If you don't move your beloved McHawk to a larger tank, he will experience what is called stunting. This is where the inside of his body will continue to grow, but the outside of his body knows the tank won't allow it to grow and stays small. He'll become deformed from the inside out. Is this really what you want for him?

It's about the fish. It's not about us. They deserve the best that we can give them.
