Hi, I have a Topaz Puffer and the underside of his body changes colour as he moves around the tank. It can go from completely white to completely black. I am absolutely sure he is not suffering from any kind of stress and wondered whether it was a camouflage thing. -_-

Puffers colours change when happy, sad, stressed, hungry, angry etc.....Usually if the belly should be white and its black id check water stats and then start looking from there.

What are the Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, SG, PH etc.
Tank Size,
Other inhabitants,

etc etc

Hi, all levels of nitrite etc. are good. He seems to change colour as he moves across the tank. I think it could possibly be either a camouflage or hunger thing. He doesn't seem to be stressed in any way. Our tank size is 200l and we have silver sharks, buenos aries tetras, silver tipped tetras, odessa barbs, a cory sterbai, an asian sun catfish, coolie loaches, a royal sturisima, a lobster (surviving life with a puffer), and a sinodontis. :)

Topaz Puffer, Tetraodon Fluviatilis?

If thats the Puffer you have then you do realise that he is Brackish to High Marine Salt at adulthood, so you either have him in the complete wrong water setup or all the other fish. If he is in Freshwater that's the problem.

Puffy was bought as a freshwater fish but have read that he will need to gradually be moved to salt water as he gets older. It's a shame the shop didn't tell me though.
