im gonna use a powerhead from an old UGF to make more current in my tank but theres a big whole in the bottom of it that leaves and more importantly fish could get sucked into.

best thing (and easiest) i can think to use is tin foil with loads oof lil holes punched in it.

but is it safe?

i wouldnt think so as foil is a metal conducter and shouldnt be in the water as electricity will be in the water.....i think!!!!! :X

lol, maybe, u still might be able to use the foil just i thought about it being a conducter, many people use hair nets for planting and stuff so i dunno wether that wud be ok? :/

mmm cheesy tank now!!

the tinfoil is actually ok as on its own it will not be earthed, unless you earth it... and also your equipment should not be shorting into the water, so unless you have faulty equipment, you wont have any problems. just always follow the golden rule: if your fish look elecrotcuted, switch the power off. if you want to put your hand near the equipment or the water, switch it off!!!

switch it off, switch it off, switch it off.

I wouldn't use tin foil. I used aluminum foil once to cover a hole in the top of my tank by my filter, and the bottom of it (that was in contact with the water) tarnished or degraged or something. It turned black. I removed it because I wasn't sure if it was releasing things into by tank in the process. I am not sure if the foil that you want to use is aluminum or not, but it could have a similar problem.

you know the net sort of things that those little oranges come in, tangerines? well that sort of net, that may be a good option? but then again, you guys seem to have it sorted... lol

It's worth making the point that this is true, from only an electrical point of view.

It's well documented that metals such as aluminium when in solution are toxic to fish, so unless you have firm evidence that aluminium foil doesn't leech Aluminium into the water I should steer WELL clear.

I once put tin foil on the back of a tank (to cover it) and in a few months is fell apart into a grey powder like substance. IMO, not good for fish

knew i was forgetting something when I was posting that -_-

The black substance and the greyish powder would have been the tin foil (aluminium) foil oxidasing I wouldnt have thought that this would be a good idea in an aquarium. Some old netting and an elastic band would do much better
