Ok all,
Try to keep in mind we were all newbies once and i still am
For my first tank about 3 months ago, after it cycled i bought 2 serpae tertras, 1 pearl dani, 1 blue longfin danio, After a few weeks of getting addicted to the hobby and really doing my research o had to come to the reality that my 5 gallon tank was horribly mistocked, the tetras were fine but the pearl and longfin were always niping each other. Finally decided today the only ethical thing would be to take the two danios back and get more serpae tetras so they could at least be happy. I didnt have a plastic bag so i used a cup and drove them to the pet store. On the way, the longfin JUMPED 3 INCHES out of the cup onto the floor by my brake. I couldnt stop or pull over :-( I kept driving for what seemed like an eternity (about 5 minutes) got out of my car fast as i could expecting it to be dead...She was alive!!! still trying to breath!!I picked her up and put her in the water and she is ok!! :p :p what a trooper! So in the end, i think i did the right thing and definatley learned my lesson as i do thourough research before buying anything! Thought i would share with you :D :D

Drew

by the way picked up 3 serpae tetras so now i just have 5 serpae tetras in the tank, they should be much happier! :D

tanks' still a little overstocked though-they'd be much happier in a 10-15 gallon. Although yes, fish can go without air for some time. When I was cleaning my first betta's tank he jumped behind the table his bowl was on and I couldn't get at him through the little crack. I started panicking, picked him up by his tail (he got fin rot because of this :S ) and he fell right under. Still panicking I called my bro over and he moved the table so we could get at him. He's still living hapily (this was about a year ago) :) .

Awe well at least your learning quickly! You could use ziploc bags too those qould work just as well in a pinch. Also if you could, put saran wrap over the top of the cup next time or tape a paper to the top to block anything from jumping out. Just a few quick hints for if you need to take fish back and your in a pinch.

Good Luck with the rest of your fish keeping!

haha yea i should have thought that through a little more, i didnt have any ziploc bags (im crazy i know)! thanks for making me feel a little better about it everyone. As for the tank being overstocked, yes i realize this. however, they are much happier now in a group and i will be moving them eventually when i can afford a bigger tank. Thanks for all the input
