Yesterday after work me and the other half decided to finally get round to changing our garish blue gravel stubstrate in our community, and do a bit of aqua-scaping rework.
Put all the fish in a big bucket with an air stone, and covered the bucket (still managed to have 4 escapees
)
Washed the sand (Agros bargin) out and took all the old gravel out and very happily chucked it away.
Put the new sand in and sorted it all out with out the piece of bogwood and our rock, both of which sit better in the sand, and then re-planted some of the plants (so much easier to plant in sand!).
I would like to say thankyou to the people on these forums for enlightening me to the use of Argos play sand, we got a whole new substrate for just under £5 instead of £20 for the stuff they sell in the LFS, despite the fact that I think the Argos sand looks better, as it's almost white!
I will post before and after pics when the water has completely cleared.
