Has anyone owned one of these?

I understand they are ideally best kept in brackish water, what would the best salinity be?

Also what is their temperament and can they be housed with othe brackish puffers / fish?

Finally has anyoe seen these in the UK? They seem to be extremely rare but a very interesting fish!

I haven't kept them myself, but know a few people who have.

They're aggressive one-to-a-tank kind of things. They're also confirmed fin-biters. They stay quite small though, so a 20-30 gallon tank would be fine. As with most brackish water fish there's no "perfect" salinity, but I'd aim for SG 1.003-1.005 at 25 C; higher salinities do not seem to be important. As with all puffers, water quality is at least as important. But otherwise they're considered to be hardy and easy to keep.

There really aren't any certain tankmates, though you might try either figure-8s or juvenile GSPs.

Although I have never seen them in the UK, I do know that they turn up in floods now and again. So it's a question of luck more than anything else. The problem is that since they're difficult fish, the market is small, so retailers tend to get them in only very rarely.

Cheers, Neale

My one is doing very well with irrebescos and bristlenoses in fresh water. I got it from aylesford aquatics in maidstone kent. they told me they often have them so might be worth googling them.
