Hi,

Obviously, with the recent hot weather my 2 tanks temperature's are going through the roof. My 40 gal has gone up from 76 up 3 degrees and my 10 gal gone from 75 to 81. I've put cold water bottles, windows open, fans on, good aeration etc etc but i was just wondering what is the highest temp tropical fish can stand? Could any of mine be in danger?? i have blue rams, rainbows, tetras, harlequin rasboras, cories, silver sharks, swordtails, zebra danios, otos, clown loaches between the 2 tanks.

this currently has a few topics going on it right now on the board. a small number of the points that have been raised are:
  • in nature, temperature does not (usually) remain constant
  • constant temps exceedingly higher or lower than the species recommended will effect their health and possibly lead to shorter life span or death.
  • allowing the water to evaporate will help nature keep the tank cool through its own methods.
  • keep lights off during the day, try to limit to a few hours at night
  • increase aeriation to the tank - the higher the temp. the lower the oxygen content of the water. labyrinth breathers have some small bonus here
  • an increase of a few days even up to a few weeks your fish should survive as long as previous points have been noted
Currently my ADF/Betta tank is sitting at 30C though as these are both air breathers im not too concerned over it. my main tank is holding out at 28C so both are higher than normal but as i say, im none too concerned as i just turned my bubble machine on 24 hours for now to increase the surface agitation for oxygen.

This is not to say that you wont suffer any losses, it is always possible. but generally, let nature take care of itself is my opinion.

I recommend reading through the existing (although rather long) topics for hints, tips and feelings from other members, they are very useful.
