Time and water changes are the only way. I still get tannins from wood that's been in my tanks for months and it has definitely gone down to an almost unnoticable level. Just takes time.

Activated carbon also removes minerals and other trace elements in the water, plus after a time, it becomes toxic and counter-productive if not replaced every few weeks.

mine still has tannis after nearly a year

It does depend on the size of the tank, the wood, how long the wood was soaking in water before, how often water is changed, how much water is changed, water chemistry, etc. So it's usually an educated guess at how long the tannins will stick around.

ok ive done a water change and it has gone down but the water near the top is darker lol
