Hi everyone

We currently have a Jewel Rekord 70 (70l) which has been running since Christmas which contains 5 Lemon Tetra, 6 Bandit Cories, 3 Platies (1M 2F) and 4 Ottos. We are planning on upgrading to a 240l - either a Jewel Rio 240 or Fluval Roma 240 - in the next couple of months.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to good tank mates for the fish we currently have which are going to be moved into the new tank? My other half wants some larger and brighter fish and he has said that he likes Angel Fish. I'm am not sure of the hardness of our tap water but I know it is on the hard side and the pH is 7.6.

Also if we decided on the Fluval it comes with an external filter - do these have room in to put our Jewel filter media while the Fluval media matures? I'm thinking if we used the mature media in the new filter we can move the fish over straight away and then add any new fish slowly - is that correct?

Thanks for any advice! :)

I can only comment based on my limited experience but I'm so pleased that I got my Yellowtail Rasboras. There are a few similar types such as Scissortails.

They love lots of swimming space and shoal up nicely. And they love feeding time. They're like pirahnas (but have more of a craving for flake and daphnia).

If you have a look around I think there are similar fish in the family with a hint of red on their tails...they look great.

I would add some more lemon tetras to begin with, as they should be in groups of at least 6. Then bigger fish you could add are: rainbowfish, gouramis (don't take dwarfs, the get sick easily) or a shoal of congo tetras. Also lovely colourful are killyfish, and they occupy the top layer of the water, so don't get in the way of other fish.

Thanks for the advice - I was thinking of adding a couple more Lemons as they did start off in a group of 6. And I do really like them they colour up beautifully when you get them home.
I shall have a look at the other fish - I did see some rainbowfish in the LFS the other day but I haven't seen Killifish - I shall look them up. I was a bit concerned about Gouramis as they shouldn't be around nippy fish - my Lemons nip each other although I haven't seen them nip other fish - but I shall do some research on this. :)

Instead of the Juwel Rio 240, i'd go for the Juwel Vision 260 (Bow front). Sweet! :good:

Thanks Biulu I shall have another look at Gouramis then.
I do like the bow fronted aquariums (I like the Fluval Vicenza too) but they are quite a bit more expensive so we'd have to decide if we can afford it! It's between the Jewel ones and the Fluval ones at the moment anyway so if anyone has any preferences either way let me know! :)
