Just finished filling up my new Rio 180 in my bedroom (on the 3rd floor) and the thought of it cracking / breaking / leaking / falling through the floorboards / getting water everywhere absolutely terrifies me! It doesnt help that walking past it causes the water surface to ripple/wobble slightly.
Am I the only one afraid of their tank? Lol
This isnt my first tank but my previous one was a measly 12g compared to this 40g behemoth! Make me feel better!

I wouldn't worry about it at all. A 40g weighs about 400 lbs. That's roughly two and a half people. Floors can withstand at least a dozen fat people. :)

I agree with what chibi says.

What might help to stop the wobbling, is to put a thick carpet and a slate of styrofoam under your tank. This levels out also any water pressure on certain points due to irregularities of your floor. This avoids cracks and leakages!

I always have jitters first setting up an unestablished and untested tank but it goes away after a few weeks.

I set up a rio 180 and had the same concerns. I'm on the ground floor but I have floor boards. Its been going fine for 3 months (fingers crossed!)

who's underneath you? family or neighbours?

i find providing towels usually is a good bet just in case and if you have a dyson hoover all the better

it's already on top of an inch thick sheet of polystyrene to even the pressure, as the floor not only slopes but is lumpy too lol
